BMW Dashboard Warning Lights

Schedule Service Today

BMW vehicles are known for their longevity and quality, however, your particular model will require service from time to time. If that is the case, you may notice that a warning light has popped up on the dashboard of your BMW. While some of these issues may be easily fixed at home, you may need to bring your vehicle in for service. BMW of Brooklyn has created this handy guide to what your BMW dashboard warning lights mean.

BMW Dash Warning Lights: Meanings

Your BMW vehicle was carefully crafted with many advanced systems to take your Staten Island drives to the next level. Because of this, you will notice a wide range of BMW warning light symbols on the dashboard. Some of these warning lights may be letting you know that your BMW needs service right away. However, other lights may signal a much less serious issue, maybe even one that you could fix on your own. Knowing the meaning of your BMW dash warning lights could help you to determine whether it is time to set up a service appointment at BMW of Brooklyn.

  • Empty or Low Fuel: When you first see this light, it means that you have approximately 30 miles before your vehicle will be out of fuel. Find a nearby gas station in Manhattan as soon as you can. Driving with this light on for an extended period of time could lead to damage to your fuel system.
  • Tire Pressure Monitor: When this light is illuminated, one or more of your tires is not at the recommended tire pressure. A yellow light means the tire pressure is down by about 10%, however a red light tells you that the tire has deflated rapidly.
  • Oil Can: This light tells you that it is time to bring your vehicle in for an oil change. Clean engine oil is necessary to keep essential engine components lubricated and to prevent overheating.
  • Light Bulb: When this dashboard light comes on, it is a signal that one or more external lights are out or experiencing an issue. If the light remains on after you change the necessary bulbs, it is a good idea to have your vehicle looked at by a professional.
  • Thermometer: This light can signal that your vehicle is getting too hot or that it is overheating. Because driving with this light on is potentially dangerous or it can lead to engine damage, we highly recommend pulling over when it is safe to do so to let the engine cool down. You will want to bring your vehicle in for service as soon as possible.
  • Engine: When this warning light flashes or stays on, your vehicle will once again require service as soon as possible.
  • Dynamic Stability Control: You do not have to worry about bringing your vehicle in for service when you see this light. All that it means is that the traction control system has been engaged.
  • Service Vehicle: If this light is yellow, it means your BMW will be due for service soon. If service is overdue, you will see the light turn from yellow to red.
